Concussions and Head Injuries

One of the primary goals of Elev8 Sports is that your player(s) have a safe and fun experience. Unfortunately, sometime injuries occur. While many minor injuries are easily treated, head injuries are a serious matter in which we must always err on the side of the health and safety of our players. As such, the Leadership Team has set in place the following policies regarding concussions and head injuries.

Concussions (Head Injuries)
  • When the referee determines that a player has suffered an impactful head collision during practice or a game, he or she must be removed for the remainder of that event.
  • The coach must inform the parent or guardian as soon as possible of the injury.
  • The coach must fill out an injury report and report the injury to the Game Day Coordinator or the ELEV8 Leadership Team.
  • The GDC and/or Leadership Team will file the injury report with the hosting church and follow up with the player's family.
  • Referees and coaches should discuss the situation prior to a determination being enacted on the court.

Once a player has been removed due to head injury, he/she may not return (even if a parent, coach or injured player believes the player is okay). A signed note from a doctor is required to return to practices or future games.

Definition of Head Injury:
Any time a player suffers a blow to the head that results in that player’s slow recovery from the incident. This could be the result of hitting the head on floor, another player, the goal, the rim or any other object in or near the field of play.
